Murray Shoring
Why should the person reading this page tune to your show?
Well the listener can't go wrong with the variety of music, news and information and will hopefully also find in my show, a friendly, warm style of entertainment that, I believe, suits and works well with our music
How did you get into radio?
After graduating from the AIR-TV (radio & television course), I sent audition tapes everywhere, landing my first job at 4GR Toowoomba
What's the best thing about working for 4BH882?
The great music plays a big part - I wouldn't enjoy working for a station with bad music, especially being on air. Obviously the people you work with are also a big contributor to a working environment and we are so lucky here. (Mind you, I mainly work on weekends, so I don't see everyone J)
Tell us one thing your listener would not know about you?
I am a real lover of animals - I'm vice president of a cat club and a member of the Waterfowl Association. (Love ducks!)
What do you do while the songs are playing?
I try to be constantly aware of what's coming up, so I'm always concentrating on my show - researching artist info etc. (The boss will love that!)
What do you do when you're not on-air?
Voiceover work for radio & television commercials / corporate videos. And a lot of auditions for film and television work. (Unfortunately as they say, "acting consists of lots of auditions occasionally interrupted by work")
Outside of radio have you ever won an award for anything?
For pistol shooting - those round paper targets only!
What's your favourite decade and why?
The 70s without doubt. My high school and early radio years were through that decade, so naturally, I just love the music from that era.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Albert Hammond's 'Half a Million Miles From Home'
What's the worst single you ever bought?
I wish I could say I'd bought some rap song, because that would be the worst, but I have only ever bought good songs (I have such good taste).
What would you do if you won $1,000,000?
Pretty much the same as I'm doing now, but I would invest some, for retirement and for my children, take a holiday and give away a good amount - to family and to charities, especially 'animal charities'.
What was your first ever job?
I worked with the SGIO for 5 weeks, before my first radio job at 4GR Toowoomba
What is your favourite Childhood memory?
Holidays at Coffs Harbour or Kingscliff, and my Dad taking me to Festival Hall to see the 'Roller Game'
Who is your favourite Band or Artist?
Carpenters
What is your favourite Song?
I have so many, but let's go with 'This Masquerade' and 'Song For You' from the Carpenters with a special mention for 'Matter of Trust' by Billy Joel.
What is your favourite Album?
Best of The Carpenters, Best of Eagles
If a party were being held in honour of you, which track would be played to sum you up (and why)?
Top of the World (Carpenters). I'm usually pretty happy and the title says it all
Which famous people have you met / interviewed and who did you like / dislike?
Having been involved in some acting, I have been lucky enough to meet quite a few over the years. Some of my favourites include Gavin McLeod and the 'Love Boat' cast as well as guest cast which included Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle), Harry Morgan (MASH), Lloyd Bridges (Sea Hunt), and Michelle Phillips (Mamas & Papas). I also worked with Jason Robards on the film 'Real Macaw'. And they were all really nice!
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
I always wanted to be an actor and announcer, and maybe a commercial pilot in my spare time. I would always say 'I want to be a Homicide cop' and when further questioned about joining the police force, I would quickly add 'a Homicide cop like Leonard Teale!'
